Our Platypus Bush Camp Tree Huts are not your typical accommodation. Suspended among the lush canopy of Finch Hatton’s rainforest, these huts provide a raw yet comfortable experience in nature. Built with sustainability in mind back in the late 80s, they feature natural timber construction and open-air designs, offering an authentic outdoor escape where all you need to bring is your clothes, some food and a good attitude:)
Each tree hut is elevated, giving you stunning views of the surrounding creek through the rainforest. With no artificial distractions, our guests can fully embrace the peaceful ambiance of the wilderness and the beautiful fauna and fauna that you can watch from your bed.

Our Honeymoon Hut is our most sought-after hut as it sits on top of our swimming hole with the backdrop of the rainforest. It is not uncommon to view the Platypus from your bed.

Our Tree Huts provide the essentials for a comfortable stay in the wild. Each hut is equipped with a comfortable bed, is fully enclosed or has mosquito netting, and rustic furnishings. Guests of the huts and tree house have access to an extremely well-equipped kitchen with all utensils, stoves, barbecue, commercial coffee machine, fridge, undercover dining area with open fireplace.
As a hotel guest, do you have access to the other amenities, including hot rainforest showers, flushing toilets, another large kitchen area with pizza oven and communal fireplaces, incredible swimming holes and Platypus viewing areas.
Unlike traditional hotels, our tree huts encourage a digital detox however, we have satellite Internet available if you need to work or have something important to do. The space allows guests to unwind, read a book, or simply listen to the sounds of the forest and the creeks.
For adventurers, the huts are a perfect base for exploring the many walking trails, waterfalls, and wildlife that Finch Hatton has to offer. Wake up to the sight of Ulysses butterflies dancing in the sunlight or catch a glimpse of rainforest pigeons in the trees around your hut. The area is a paradise for birdwatchers, with species like kingfishers, cockatoos, various pigeonsand bowerbirds frequently seen.
In addition to the wildlife, the scenery surrounding the tree huts is breathtaking. Guests can enjoy spectacular sunrises filtering through the trees or relax in the evening as fireflies light up the rainforest.

- Birdwatching and Photography: Capture stunning images of native birds and wildlife in their natural habitat.
- Go check out the world-class downhill mountain bike track and Historic Finch Hatton: There is bike hire and a shuttle service available and it’s a great place to take the kids to enjoy the pump track. There is a general store a pub and cafe in Finch Hatton as well.
- Explore Eungella: the drive up the range to Eungella is incredible on its own and then when you get to the top the views overlooking the valley of breathtaking.
- There are walks that can take minutes or all day or spend the day driving the sealed and unsealed roads. There is a Platypus viewing area here at Broken River as well 🙂
- Relaxing at Camp: Unwind in a hammock, read a book, or simply soak in the tranquility of the rainforest and chat to like-minded people.
