Our reviews
Had a great time in this quiet and peaceful bushcamp. With the lights at night it feels magical ! Make sure to book a caravan spot with a view on the river :) The showers were also amazing
loved platypus bush camp! stayed in the creekside hut and it was perfect! creek is beautiful and so clear! shane and zoe were amazing hosts and very kind! will be back for sure! xoxo Charlies Angels
Me and along with my 5 friends booked the camp site for 25th December night stay.Drove all the way from Gold Coast there and couldn’t find the site there that night, no clear signs to navigate to the camp site. We got late and tried to check in after 10pm. It was pretty late but atleast there should be some lights and proper navigation to reach there. There was a detour and the road was flooded with little water, pretty scary drive there to be honest. We had no place to stay that night. Waste of money. Can’t complain since we did late checked in but just this a feedback.
Hands down one of the best places we've stayed! Zoe was a dream host, so helpful and made the stay extra special. She helped the kids paint rocks and fairy doors and let them add them to the forest. Shane has done an amazing job making this place a little slice of heaven! We will definitely be back.
Very suggestive place to camp, just next to the creek where you can have a fresh swim, spend good time with other travelers in a very comfort bush area!
We camped at Platypus Bush Camp it was magnificent, the service we received from the staff and the new owner Shane was wonderful. We went to MTB in the new Finch Hatton mtb park but we got rained out, will definately be back to enjoy a weekend of serenity and adventure. One of the best camping spots I have stayed at. Will be back...
This is the most beautiful campsite that I’ve stayed. The staff is just so friendly and the place is peaceful, clean, tidy. Is worthy staying a couple of nights in this little gem. Hopefully I can come back soon!
Great stay there, we had a thunderstorm all night, was still great sleeping "outdoors" in Honey Moon Hut. Lightning and woke a few times up from rain spray in my face :-) Great place
I stayed here for a couple of weeks in August/September. If you love nature this is a beautiful location, with plenty to do in the surrounding area. It has a fantastic communal fire pit , hammock area & beautiful natural swimming hole. The most common comment I heard here was “I wish we booked for longer”.
The highlight is Shane! Lovely host, interesting and funny person with great vibes. The place is secluded in the middle of the jungel and is perfect for chill out with swiming holes and spots for platypuses. We had great time there. Take a few days to enjoy the surrondings and absourb the place's atmosphere.
Words cannot express the uniqueness of this privately run rainforest retreat. Please DO NOT camp there unless you love nature and what it has to offer. NO...there are no swimming pools, playgrounds, restaurants etc. You need to be self sufficient, bush showers and toilets are available but if you're a princess this is not for you. Shane runs the place and he is on a mission to ensure this place offers the best of Mother Nature
Beautiful flat and roomy bush camp sites surrounded by rainforest, opening on to a delightful creek. One of the most pretty and peaceful places we've stayed in years of travelling and this 3 month road trip. Other sections equally nice and fabulously equipped with camp kitchen, private hot showers opening to the rainforest, beautifully raked paths winding throughout. Short drive to walks at the nearby gorge, so great to leave the van behind. $40/n for paradise!
Lovely place, beautiful nature and river, everything was perfect, the showers are super cool.
Such a lovely site and group of people all very friendly accomodating and kind, thank you I wished I could have stayed longer, hopefully get to come back again some day Middle of nowhere but country vibes till you hit the beautiful rainforest Well done you can tell they care about the flora and fauna here Didn’t see any platypus this time which I was sad about but was a very quick stop and didn’t look super hard I’m sure they’re there Just magic
The peaceful rainforest setting, crystal-clear river, and immaculate premises made for a truly relaxing experience. Staying in the honeymoon suite on the river added to the serenity and privacy.highly recommend !!
What a brilliant bush camp in a tropical setting. Defines eco camping. Brilliant facilities ( you will love the bush showers), hosts are passionate folks who run a clean efficient site in the most relaxing and laid back way. Brilliant swimming hole, crystal clear waters and a platypus or two if you're patient and quiet . Great experience thanks guys keep up the great vibe.
Cannot recommend this place more!! We truly have never been anywhere as beautiful as this, definitely head out if you're considering it!!
The Platypus Bush Camp is one of the most unique accommodation destinations on the east coast. Amazing bush walking tracks, bird watching, swimming holes, friendly family owned property. Its luxury bush camping huts are one of a kind. Plenty of space for caravans or campers
Great campsite with amazing facilities (2 kitchens, hammocks, fireplace, toilets and even hot showers) for a fair price. Owner is a great guy that even helped us to cross a river after heavy rainfall using his trailer because we were in a rush.
Very cosy stay. Great facilities with outdoor showers. There is a creek near the camping where you can go swimming.
Great campsite, a slice of paradise in the perfect location. Super close to beautiful waterfalls in the national park, toilets and showers were clean and pleasant to use. There is a perfect swimming hole on the property as well. You do have to drive over a couple of shallow rivers to get there, we managed ok in our campervan, but might have been a different story if the water levels were higher.
A true paradise in a stunning location. The place has a good atmosphere with cosy shared areas and well-maintained amenities. The hot showers with a tropical view are definitely worth mentioning!
100% recomendado.
Didn't stay but walked around and I'm definitely coming back for this spot. Right next to a platypus habitat and GREAT hiking. My buddy and I walked to the waterfall and saw so many things along the way. We found snakes, goannas, lizards, bugs, birds, and more. I love this place and I would reccommend coming for a treehouse stay and a camp fire.
Loved staying here, beautiful secluded camp in the rainforest. Lots of wildlife, beautiful swimming pot, wish we could have spent more time here. Easy to get to. Went to the pinnacle family hotel (12mins away) for dinner. We really liked the shower shack. The Camp is so unique, would highly recommend!
Highly recommend this amazing hidden gem. Shane has turned this into a beautiful place in the jungle. Perfect swimming Creek, charming communal area with hammock to hang back in and toilets and showers with an amazing view. It has a short bushwalk to spot platypus. This is the first place where we wanted to stay longer than we booked for
A brilliant campsite perfectly positioned a short drive from Finch Hatton Gorge. My partner Sophia and I stayed here for three nights and absolutely loved our experience. Falling asleep to the sound of the rushing waters of the nearby creek, and waking up with a refreshing morning swim was truly idyllic. The bushcamp itself has a great feel, and this is largely testament to what Shane and his crew have created. Shane is such a lovely, exciting guy and a superb host. Always checked in on everyone on his strolls through the campsite, and went above and beyond to help us out when we needed it most. Heavily recommend this place to anyone looking to explore the beauty of the Eungella National Park.
Stayed only for one night but can highly recommend Platypus Bushcamp. It’s situated along a creek. I wasn’t lucky enough to spot a platypus but maybe you are luckier than me. It’s a beautiful place to wake up and spend your morning. The camp is very neat and set up with thought. There’s an outdoor seating area where you can enjoy your morning coffee. On the other side you’ll find 4 flushable toilets and 2 showers. What else do you need? Thank you Shane for setting this up and being such a welcoming host.
Great to be back in this special place with wonderful and friendly host Shane. Everything is just as it was only better! Will be back soon xx
Heaven on earth! The owner is awesome, the camp is beautiful, and the facilities are terrific 👌 Just come and enjoy the creek in the camp and go to the amazing gorge in the morning you won't regret it.
It is one of our favourite places we stayed on our trip around Australia. The rainforest was beautiful we swam in the river. George Hatton gorge just up the road, loved the outdoor showers great hosts just so relaxing
Beautiful spot! Amazing clean toilets and hot showers. Pet and kid friendly. Lovely owners. Fire flies and cute creatures… not far from the gorge and great places to visit/eat in finch hatton, pinnacle and eungella. Perfect getaway
Most amazing spot on the whole QLD coastline! What a special experience with excellent facilities. There couldn’t be a complaint if you tried! Don’t miss the chance to stay here.
The most beautiful, exciting and nature connected campsite I have ever been to Everything simple but super lovingly designed With a fireplace, access to a swimming area on the river and a cozy lounge area you feel directly welcome and secure I can recommend this place to everyone
Heaven on Earth 🌎 Wazza is a beautiful host ❤️ This place should be on everyone's bucket list!
Second time visiting. Most tranquil place ever, currently doing a lap of Aus and this is probably our favourite spot. Wazza is a legend, the place is gorgeous. Thanks for having us again, we’ll see ya next time ! 😄
Get back to basics with Wazza at the bush camp. No electricity no mobile service, it was so relaxing. Went for a swim in the creek pool, cold & invigorating. Take a short walk to spot a platypus if you’re lucky. Open camp fire, toilets & showers. About 2km to the cascades & other waterfalls @ Finch Hatton.
Best place on earth, so peaceful and magical. Not sure who loves it more me or the kid's. Thanks for having us Wazza. See you very soon!
Keins stechgefahr. Der Luxus.
Great little campsite close to the gorge! If you want the full nature experience - this is for you. A very relaxing atmosphere, beautifull natural pool and even spotted a platypus in the morning!
Are pets allowed?
Yes, we love animals as long as they are extremely well-behaved and kept on a leash at all times.
If you think that your pet is going to bark uncontrollably, aggressive with other animals, including the wildlife that’s here it’s best to leave them at home.
If the property is busy, we don’t allow pets in the swimming hole and ask that you pay a $5 fee per pet.
Are the Tree Huts and Glamping suitable for families?
Defiantly!
Our Treehouse Retreat can sleep 6 with option to add more mattresses. The Glamping tent has one king and 2 singles with area to add more mattresses or swags,The Family Hut that can sleep up to five, The Creekside Hut has a King bed and a Single mattress and our Honey moon hut has a king bed and an area to add a small tent or swags.
Are there showers and toilets at the campsite?
Yes, we have clean flushing toilets and Hot rainforest showers that our guests absolutely love.
Are we allowed campfires at the campsite?
Yes, we have designated fire pits for campfires and a communal fire pit too. Firewood can be purchased on-site or bring your own.
Can I get Married here or Host a Retreat or Event?
You most definitely can. Everyone loves a good time and we have some really cool spaces and cool stuff to make an event really special and fun. Remember that you are coming to stay and play at our beautiful home that we choose to share so we have a strict “don’t be a Dick” Policy :)
Can I have a campfire at my site?
Yes, bring your own fire pit if you like and just make sure you put all the ash into our main fire area.
Some sites have their own fire pit already and there are multiple fire pits and fireplaces for everyone to enjoy.
Wood is available to be purchased on site or feel free to bring your own.
Can I pay to come as a day guest?
Yes, you can. It is a small space so parking is limited, but we are happy to host people during the day if we are not too busy. Give us a call or drop into the office.
Can I see a Platypus
Its quite likely but sightings aren’t guaranteed as they are a wild and free animal, the nearby Platypus pool is one of the best spots in Finch Hatton to see the Platypus in the wild or you take a beautiful 30 minute drive to Broken River in Eungella National Park as they also have a viewing area.
And Dawn and dusk are the best times to see them in their natural habitat, which we preserve for them at the Platypus Bush Camp.
Do I bring food or are the Shops / Pubs / Takeaway close by?
Absolutely! Guests have access to a communal kitchen where they can prepare meals and enjoy the great vibes / views :) If you have a lot of items that need to be kept cool please bring an esky as our fridge and freezer space is shared with all campers. Finch Hatton has a General store, The Criterion Hotel and a Service Station where you can buy most things you need and they are 10 mins away so don’t worry. Remember the Pinnacle Family Hotel is 15 mins away and has the famous Pinnacle Pies! Delivery from the Pinnacle Pub may also be available.
Do I need to book a campsite in advance?
We recommend booking in advance, especially during busy periods, but we do accept walk-ins and try our best to accommodate even if we are busy.
